AiRPORT :
The port of entry is Bauerfield, only 10 minutes
from the capital, Port Vila.
BANKING & FINANCE :
Trading banks are ANZ, Bank ANZ Pacifique,
Westpac and the National Bank of Vanuatu. Banks
opening hours : Both ANZ Bank 9.00 am to 3.30 pm ;
National Bank, monday to thursday 8.30 am to 3.30 pm
and Friday 8.30 am to 4.00 pm ; Westpac, 8.30 am to
4.00 pm. Vanuatu is a tax haven, there is no income
tax and foreign currency is readily transacted. The
local currency unit is the Vatu. ANZ and Westpac has
a cash dispenser (ATM) in down-town Port Vila, at
the international airport and Down Town Au Bon
Marche.
BUSINESS HOURS :
Government offices open Monday to Friday from
7:30 am to 11:30 am, and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Most
businesses operate during the same hours,
CAMPING :
Is not encouraged publicly in Vanuatu, however,
some guesthouses offer camping at their grounds.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS :
World-wide satellite communications, 24 hour
telephone, telex, fax, plus e-mail and internet
services. Internet Café in Port Vila and Luganville.
TIME :
Vanuatu time is GMT/UMT plus 11 hours, which
is one hour ahead of Australian Eastern Standard
time
TRANSPORTATION :
Driving is on the right-hand side of the
road. Cars and vans are available for hire.
Taxis are plentiful and are all metered.
Mini-buses offer a frequent though not
time-tabled service - merely flag one down and
tell the driver where you want to go, the fare
is 100 vatu a trip. Inter-island travel is
mainly by air - inter-island boats taking deck
passengers are irregular. Cruiseships regularly
call in at Port Vila.
