Accommodation and visiting the
island
There are no hotels on the island, but
there is no problem finding a traditional fare or a guest
room (Catholic mission Tel.: 38191, Nangol Bungalows
Southern pentecôte Tel.: 38444 or Island Safari Tel.: 23288).
A road runs along the whole of the western coast and can be
used with a 4-wheel drive taxi. Starting from the airport,
going up north, you will see :
Waterfall Village which has a lovely little beach and
beautiful waterfalls about 1.5 km inland.
Melsisi and its gorges, 3 km away into the bush (rooms can
be rented at the Catholic mission).
Loltong, the administrative centre of Pentecost, then the
pretty beach at Laone and finally Tara Point.
If you are heading south, you will have the pleasure of
discovering 2 hot springs, which gave their name to Hotwota,
Rangusu and Panas where you might be lucky enough to see the
towers being erected by the men.
Then Aten Point with Captain Cook's Rock and finally, Pangi,
Salap and Ramputor just a few meters away from a superb.
white sand beach. If you want to go over to the famous
Bunlap village on the eastern coast, you have two options:
either to cut across the island, climbing the mountainous
ridge (a difficult march which should not be undertaken
without a guide), or you can take a boat from Cross Point.
For more information, please contact the local tour
operators, which offers packages of 2 nights/3 days, or 3
nights/4 days all the year round out of Port Vila.
